USC’s unbeaten swim team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, will be the favorite in the Pacific 10 Conference meet today through Friday at the Belmont Plaza pool in Long Beach.

UCLA, 8-2 after losing dual meets to USC and California, will be competing not only for the conference title but also for more National Collegiate Athletic Assn. qualifying times.

The only Bruins who have made the cut for the NCAA meet are Giovanni Minervini, who has the country’s fourth-fastest time of the season of 55.62 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 400-yard medley relay team of Darren Ward, Minervini, Craig Oppel and Rob Graner.
