Local News in Brief : Compton : Funds for Court Conversion

Share

Noting the immediate need for more judges at Compton Municipal Court, the county Board of Supervisors has approved an emergency $220,000 allocation to convert an unfinished space in the courthouse into a courtroom within six months.

“The judges of Compton Court have notified the county that an emergency situation exists,” Supervisor Deane Dana said when proposing the funding.

A recent state Judicial Council study found that Compton Municipal Court needs six new judges, and the county has begun the lengthy process required for legislative authorization of the new positions, he said.

Administrator Tim Aguilar said the Municipal Court now has eight courtrooms, two hearing rooms and “two closets we’re using as hearing rooms.” The closet-like rooms are both about 10 feet long and 10 feet wide, he said.
