The percentage of California households that could afford an existing, single-family detached home during January remained unchanged from December. However, lower median home prices caused housing affordability to improve in the Orange County, Riverside/San Bernardino, Sacramento and San Diego metropolitan areas. The California Assn. of Realtors said 32% of California households had minimum annual income requirements to quality for a 30-year mortgage loan. In January, the statewide median home price was $147,281, which required an annual household income of $45,548 and monthly payments of $1,139.
