A sheriff’s sergeant is under investigation for allegedly granting leniency in return for sexual favors and has been assigned to desk duty, authorities said Thursday.

Sgt. Patrick Brown, an 18-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was pulled out of the field March 2 and placed on desk duty after the allegations against him surfaced, said Deputy Hal Grant, a department spokesman. Brown will remain on desk duty pending the outcome of the department’s investigation, Grant said.

Details of the allegations were not released, but Grant said they involved Brown’s “receiving of sexual favors in exchange for enforcement leniency.” The sergeant, who is continuing to draw pay, was last assigned to the Walnut sheriff’s station.
