A 3-year-old Reseda boy, found floating unconscious in Pyramid Lake, was in good condition and improving Friday, authorities said.

The boy’s father was missing after the Thursday boating accident.

Daniel Alan Green, who was wearing a flotation vest, was thrown into the water when the boat his father had rented capsized, authorities said.

The boy, suffering severe hypothermia and shock when pulled from the 50-degree water Thursday, was taken out of the intensive care unit at Valley Presbyterian Hospital as his condition improved Friday, hospital spokeswoman Ann Kirkpatrick said.

Authorities, meanwhile, called off the search for the boy’s father, Howard Green, 34.

Two-foot waves whipped by 40-m.p.h. winds upset the 14-foot aluminum skiff Green had rented for a day of fishing, authorities said. Green had rented boats before but reportedly had limited boating experience.

Although his son was wearing a flotation vest, Green was not, Deputy Dan Cox of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
