- Last week, the three-member staff of the Batiquitos Festival resigned in a dispute over fiscal responsibility with the Carlsbad festival’s backer, Don Sammis. The employees had not been paid since Feb. 15, according to festival administrative director Kimberly Fox, one of the three staffers who quit.

Sources said that monetary commitments made by the festival to some scheduled artists had not been honored, either, endangering Batiquitos’ elaborate program of classical and pop concerts.

Sue Carter, a spokeswoman for the festival, would not comment on how these resignations might affect the two-month summer festival. She stated that the festival’s board of trustees was preparing a statement to be released Friday.
