An Arleta man has been sentenced to 33 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a woman in the face and wounding a man in the leg in a Pacoima parking lot.

San Fernando Superior Court Judge Bruce J. Sotille on Monday sentenced Carlos Zepeda Montes, 24, in the Dec. 28, 1986, incidents.

Montes was convicted Dec. 10 of one count of first-degree murder in the slaying of Patricia Lemus, 21, in the parking lot at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Rinaldi Street. He also was convicted of one count of assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of Ernest Acosta, who sought to prevent him from leaving the scene.

Witnesses testified during the trial that Montes apparently was looking for a man who beat up his brother. Unable to find his brother’s attacker, Montes shot Lemus because he “just wanted to kill somebody,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Shellie Samuels.
