“Hamburger Hill,” a Vietnam movie, debuted on the Billboard magazine rental chart at No. 11. The word around the industry is that the success of another Vietnam drama, “Platoon”--the No. 3 rental--inspired many fans to see ‘Hill.” “The Squeeze,” the action comedy starring Michael Keaton, didn’t figure to be a big rental hit. Most critics didn’t embrace it, but it’s off to a good start--No. 19--largely due to Keaton’s appeal. Many obviously still remember him from “Mr. Mom.” On the sales chart, which measures sales to retailers and distributors, “Lady and the Tramp” is still No. 1; “Start Up With Jane Fonda” debuted at No. 8 on the sales chart.

* This 1987 smash sequel to the 1985 Eddie Murphy flick entered the Top 40 rental chart at a low No. 36. But look for it to start moving up fast as renters realize it’s on the shelves. Next month, “Cop II” may be battling the newest Bond--Timothy Dalton--and his debut caper, “The Living Daylights,” for the top spot.
