Local News in Brief : New Function Planned for Old Jail
The old Avalon jail will be converted to a mausoleum and chapel as part of the expansion of Avalon cemetery approved by the City Council.
The old jail was closed when the new Avalon sheriff’s station was completed in 1985. The expansion plan provides for new fencing, landscaping improvements, replacement of the irrigation system and rehabilitation of the jail structure. It will be paid for by public funds and private donations of money, labor and materials.
