22 Motorists Arrested at Checkpoints
St. Patrick’s Day sobriety checkpoints resulted in the arrest of 17 people in Brea and five drivers in Irvine, authorities said Friday.
Brea police conducted a sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday. Police said 11,333 drivers traveling westbound on Imperial Highway at Viking Avenue were screened.
Police said 33 drivers were interviewed, and 17 of them were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The drivers were booked into the Brea City Jail and released on their own recognizance.
Irvine police set up a sobriety checkpoint from 7:30 p.m. to midnight Thursday on the northbound lanes of Jamboree Boulevard at Dupont Drive.
About 2,100 cars were screened, and more than 300 drivers were stopped, police said. Five people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
