Why Seton Hall Win Was Blacked Out

Share

You didn’t see it on television, but the score in Friday’s West Regional game at Pauley Pavilion was Seton Hall 80, UTEP 64.

The first-round game, which was to be televised locally by ESPN, was blacked out. An ESPN spokesman said that the network’s contract with the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. specifies that if a game is not sold out 24 hours in advance, it must be blacked out for an area 60 air miles from the playing site. The network, however, failed to get the word to the media.

Attendance for the game was 10,741. Pauley’s capacity is 12,543.
