Busy Signal

We confess. We were testing Sherry Lansing--new spokeswoman for Pac Bell--when we put in a call to the offices of Jaffe/Lansing Prods.

She really does return calls, true to her claim in those new print and radio spots. “Every one of them--every day,” said Lansing, whose office estimates she gets 50-100 calls daily.

Attributing her returned calls to “good manners,” Lansing said she’s donating her “very generous” fee to the National Cancer Institute. Lansing’s mother died three years ago of cancer and, since that time, the daughter has worked as a “scout” for Dr. Armand Hammer (he heads up the President’s Panel on Cancer Research), touring hospitals, talking with scientists about their research, working to help bring them together in symposiums, advising Hammer on his personal donations.

“I use Dr. Hammer as my role model. Busy people get things done,” said Lansing. “I don’t take my work with the NCI lightly. I’m hoping to help people understand that cancer is a disease that can be cured.”
