Hundreds of partying young people on spring break rioted on a Gulf Coast beach in Port Aransas, Tex., during the night before more than 100 police officers moved in with tear gas and helicopters. At least four people were stabbed and two law officers were injured in the midnight beach melee, police said. Eight people were arrested, and one person remained hospitalized. Police estimated that about 30,000 students were staying in the island resort for the school break. Several hours later, a speeding car crashed through a barrier at a ferry landing and sank in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, killing two passengers.
