The Reagans

While watching the tribute to Cole Porter from the White House recently, I felt a great sense of sadness realizing that this might be one of the last times to see the President and Mrs. Reagan truly enjoying the talent of their “show biz” friends. During the last 8 years, it’s been delightful to view the many programs from the White House, Kennedy Center, etc., and to see the genuine pleasure and happiness on their faces as they watched and listened.

It was wonderful to see lovely Nancy dancing with Mikhail Baryshnikov, being sung to and hugged by Frank Sinatra, and, yes, even being thrust into the air by 7-foot-tall basketball stars to make a slam dunk.

No matter who is in the White House in 1989, I can’t imagine that they would be able to compare with the style, grace and enthusiasm that our President and his lady have expressed for the many famous entertainers they have honored, and for that I will truly miss them. Incidentally, I am a registered Democrat.
