Local News in Brief : School Building Fees Up

Share

An additional $679,000 is expected to be raised next year from an increase in developer fees approved Monday by the Los Angeles Board of Education.

The board agreed to raise the fees levied on residential construction projects by 3 cents to $1.53 per square foot, beginning June 1. The increase for inflation brings the fee to the maximum allowed by state law.

Fees on commercial projects, which are charged at a lower rate of 25 cents per square foot, will remain the same.

The school district expects to generate $40 million a year from the fees, which were established in 1986 to help pay for school construction.
