A New York jury failed to reach a verdict after it deliberated for the fifth day the fate of Robert Chambers, a prep school graduate charged with murdering a young woman in Central Park. Before retiring, jurors heard a rereading of the conclusions of a pathologist who tested blood stains on the victim’s jacket. Chambers, 21, is charged with strangling Jennifer Levin, 18, on Aug. 26, 1986. Chambers claimed he accidentally choked Levin during rough sex. He was indicted on two counts of second-degree murder.
