Italian tycoon Carlo De Benedetti’s firm said it has acquired less than 50% of the stock of Societe Generale de Belgique at the close of its public offer for the huge Belgian conglomerate. Societe Generale, meanwhile, reported a 22.1% decline in 1987 profits to $118 million. Compagnie Reunis Europeenes, De Benedetti’s French holding company, said its public offer garnered 1.09 million shares or 3.85% of Societe Generale.
