Montgomery Ward & Co. will celebrate its upcoming independence from parent Mobil Corp. by opening 225 stores in the next five years. Ward’s Chairman Bernard F. Brennan said the expansion will cost the nation’s ninth-largest retailer about $150 million a year. The new stores will be additions to existing markets and the majority will be specialty shops featuring home, audio-video, apparel or automotive products.
