The General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to condemn a U.S. attempt to close the Palestine Liberation Organization’s U.N. mission in New York, and the PLO vowed to fight the U.S. attempt in federal court. Israel was the only nation to join the United States in voting against the resolution, which passed 148 to 2. “What pride do you have in throwing your guests out?” shouted PLO envoy Zehdi Labib Terzi after the General Assembly vote. The resolution calls on the United States to obey the U.N. headquarters treaty, which permits foreign missions to operate and calls for arbitration of any dispute with the host country. The resolution is not binding on the United States.
