2% Raise Brings ‘Blue Flu’

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —
Nearly all of Charleston’s day shift police officers and firefighters called in sick today to protest a 2% pay raise, and the mayor of West Virginia’s largest city declared a state of civil emergency. Firemen and police officers who were on duty overnight were retained on overtime, officials said.
