Santa Monica : Carrousel Park Wins Award
Carrousel Park, the entry plaza that links Santa Monica Pier’s carrousel to the adjacent Ocean Front Walk, has received a state design-architecture award from California’s Department of Rehabilitation.
The award is given annually to recognize architectural design that enhances an area for all residents, with special attention given to accessibility for the handicapped.
Carrousel Park was completed in 1986 and designed by local architects Moore Ruble Yudell and Campbell & Campbell. Jurors cited access ramps for the handicapped and the improved view of the pier’s underside from Ocean Front Walk.
