Police Sweeps in Los Angeles
I think it’s incredible that a Police Department and police chief would go on record to “make life miserable” for any group of people regardless of their affiliations. Of the 1,600 people harassed, only 28 had guns--that’s less than 2%. What about the other 98%? Gang membership is not a crime in this country. Councilman Nate Holden said, “The people they’re arresting are people they would not even have ordinarily contacted. . . .” Jitahadi Imara hit the nail on the head saying, “To indiscriminately sweep the community . . . is wrong.” Maybe he will be the first to stand up for the rights of gangs.
I hope so.
