W.M. Jones; Ex-Speaker of Assembly

William Moseley Jones, former Speaker of the California Assembly and founder and former president of the Los Angeles-based Pacific Savings & Loan Assn., died Thursday at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach. He was 82 and had remained president of the loan firm until its merger with California Federal Savings & Loan in 1974.
A 1927 graduate of the USC School of Law, Jones was a Democratic assemblyman from Montebello who served as Assembly Speaker in 1937.
After leaving politics, Jones turned to the world of finance and in 1953 was elected to the executive committee of the U.S. Savings and Loan League. In 1969 he was president of the California Savings and Loan League.
Survivors include a daughter and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park, Newport Beach, at 1 p.m. Monday.
