Two Los Angeles men were in custody after a theft of more than $100,000 from a La Jolla jewelry store Friday afternoon, police said.

Michael Brooks, 22, and Delmus Wilkerson, 20, were arrested in connection with the robbery at the Pelletier of Paris jewelry store on Girard Avenue shortly before 1 p.m.

Two men, one of them armed, entered the store and took a clerk to the rear of the store, where one of them tied her up with masking tape and string. The bandits then forced the manager to open 10 display cases, which they emptied.

The two thieves escaped in a car, which was seen heading east on California 52. Officers chasing the vehicle saw the occupants throw a gun and some jewelry from the car.

The suspects were tracked to University Towne Centre, where police lost sight of them. One of the men was arrested in the shopping center; the second at a nearby shopping center.

Police said most of the jewelry was recovered.
