Two potential 1990 Democratic gubernatorial candidates, Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp and Controller Gray Davis, reported Friday they already have a total of $2,186,823 in campaign contributions in the bank.

Van de Kamp said he had $1,299,082 cash on hand as of mid-March, receiving $159,045 in contributions since Jan. 1.

Davis reported he had $887,741 cash on hand, receiving $91,900 of it so far this year. Large individual contributors to Van de Kamp included $20,000 each from Los Angeles attorney Charles B. O’Reilly and the Balaban family trust of Beverly Hills, plus $10,000 from the Los Angeles investment brokerage firm of Drexel, Burnham & Lambert.

The largest individual donation to Davis was $15,000 from Leaching Technology Inc., a New Mexico mining firm Davis aides said is owned by Ray Signorello, a long-time friend.

Spending Reports Given

Van de Kamp said he had spent $83,847, and Davis $138,600 during the last 2 1/2 months, mostly on administrative expenses.

Davis donated $5,000 to opponents of an AIDS initiative, Proposition 69, on the June primary election ballot. The ballot measure would require doctors and local health officials to report the names of AIDS patients and people who test positive for AIDS antibodies for possible quarantine.

The No on 69 Committee reported it had collected $65,228 in contributions and spent $67,513 since Jan. 1.

Other big contributions included $5,000 from Friends of Zev Yaroslavsky of Los Angeles and $5,000 from James C. Hormel of San Francisco.

Meanwhile, veteran Assembly Rules Committee Chairman Tom Bane (D-Tarzana) reported he had $814,507 cash on hand, receiving $582,300 of that total this year. Bane traditionally wins reelection with ease so he gives most of his money to Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) to dole out to colleagues involved in tougher races.

Bane received $24,000 from the Zenith Insurance Co. of Woodland Hills, $18,000 from the Cooperative of American Physicians of Los Angeles, $17,000 from Physicians Interindemnity of Glendale, $12,000 from Gramercy Mortgage Co. of Burlingame, and $12,000 from We Care Inc. of Van Nuys.
