Tom Jager, formerly of UCLA, and Poland’s Artur Wojdat, who trains at the Mission Viejo Swim Club, broke world records in the U.S. Swimming National Indoor meet at Orlando, Fla.

Jager, the world record-holder in the 50-meter freestyle, lowered his mark to 22.23 seconds.

Wojdat became the first Polish swimmer to claim a world swim mark with his victory in the 400-meter freestyle. He won in 3:47.38, breaking the record held since 1985 by West Germany’s Michael Gross by .42 of a second.

Jager, a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, shaved .09 of a second off his record, set last summer in the Pan Pacific Swimming Assn. meet at Brisbane, Australia.

Dara Torres of Beverly Hills set two American records. She broke the mark in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.59 seconds in the morning preliminaries and set the mark in the 100-meter freestyle on the opening leg of the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Almost overshadowed by the avalanche of records was Janet Evans’ third victory of the meet. The Placentia native won the 400-meter freestyle in a meet-record time of 4:07.32, winning by more than 5 1/2 seconds.
