Figure skater Debi Thomas said she got married two weeks ago and kept the news a secret--even from her coach.

“I did not want the news to detract from my focus on the World Championship,” Thomas announced the World Championships at Budapest, Hungary, in which she finished third in the women’s event to East Germany’s Katarina Witt and Elizabeth Manley of Canada.

“Now that these championships are over, I want to let all my friends and supporters know how happy I am. My husband will travel with me on parts of my upcoming skating exhibitions tour. I am thrilled.”

Thomas, who turned 21 Friday, said she married Brian Vanden Hogen, 23, at Boulder, Colo., on March 15. Hogen is a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
