Japan OKs U.S. Bids on Projects

U.S. Trade Representative Clayton K. Yeutter said today that Japan has agreed to open its domestic construction projects to U.S. firms, staving off possible U.S trade sanctions.

The agreement was reached after a week of intensive negotiations. No details were announced, but Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Michael Smith said the pact will clear the way for American firms to bid and win contracts on a wide range of central and local government projects.
