Local News in Brief : Toxics Plan Hearing Set

Share

Wilmington residents, many of whom have expressed concerns about toxic materials in their community, will have a chance to comment on a draft plan for the management of hazardous waste at a public hearing Monday night.

Ernesto Nevarez, co-founder of the Harbor Coalition Against Toxic Waste, said residents are worried that because Wilmington is an industrial center, officials will target the community for storage of hazardous materials.

“We cannot perpetuate the mistruth that Wilmington is the center of toxic activity,” he said.

The hearing on the plan, which was prepared by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, will be at the Banning Recreation Center, 1330 Eubank St., at 7:30 p.m.
