A 2-year-old boy found at the bottom of a swimming pool at his Fletcher Hills home Wednesday died Thursday afternoon at Children’s Hospital.

Stephen John Thomas Mendez was found by his mother, Mary Ann, Wednesday morning in the pool at their home in the 800 block of Joanne Way in and was flown by helicopter to the hospital. He was believed to have been underwater for five to seven minutes.

A hospital spokeswoman said Stephen died about 2:15 p.m. after suffering cardiac arrest.
