Local News in Brief : 20 Arrested in Crack Bust
Police arrested 20 people in Hollywood when they tried to buy crack cocaine from undercover officers, Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl F. Gates said Friday. A new state law makes it a crime to solicit narcotics.
“We have very rarely focused on the users,” said City Atty. James K. Hahn, who joined Gates at a news conference announcing the Thursday night operation. “We’re here to say if you are using or buying narcotics, you are contributing to the problem as much as the dealers.”
