Schools in Capital to Furlough Employees

WASHINGTON —
The District of Columbia school board, claiming budget shortages, has voted to furlough all employees for one to seven days.
The board voted also Thursday to cut some summer school sessions, reduce purchases and institute a hiring freeze because of a $15-million shortage in the fiscal 1988 supplemental budget, acting School Supt. Alfred Jenkins said.
