Eleven environmental groups have endorsed Proposition 68, a June 7 ballot measure to limit the size of donations to California legislative candidates. “The first step to cleaning up the . . . environment is to clean up the . . . political process,” said Lucy Blake, executive director of the California League of Conservation Voters. “You don’t have to be a political insider to see the corrosive effect of unlimited campaign spending,” she added, saying that big donations give corporations “undue influence over decision makers.” The groups include the California League of Conservation Voters, Californians Against Waste, Coalition for Clean Air, Defenders of Wildlife, Natural Resources Defense Council, Northcoast Environmental Center, Pacific Coast Federation of Fisherman’s Assns., Planning and Conservation League, San Francisco Tomorrow, Save Our Shores and the Sierra Club.
