Kyle Philip Kollar, community development director in Lancaster since that city’s inception almost 10 years ago, has been named to the same post in Santa Clarita, city officials announced Tuesday.

Kollar, 36, will begin work in Santa Clarita on April 25. Among his responsibilities in the fast-growing community will be to direct long-range planning and redevelopment, the enforcement of city codes and the writing of the city’s first general plan, Mayor Howard P. (Buck) McKeon said. Kollar will work closely with the city’s new Planning Commission.

McKeon said Kollar was one of 28 applicants for the job. He was selected by the City Council after interviews with three finalists chosen by a hearing panel headed by Clyde Smyth, superintendent of the William S. Hart Union High School district.

Kollar’s experience in Lancaster was a major factor in his selection, McKeon said. That city has some of the same problems related to rapid growth as Santa Clarita, he said.

Besides his Lancaster job, Kollar has been a planner in the cities of Chino, Imperial Beach and Pinedale. He was assistant to the city manager in Greenfield. Kollar is a graduate of Cal State Fresno and UC Santa Barbara.

His salary in Santa Clarita will be $68,700 a year.
