1988 Preludes Being Recalled Over Hoses

DETROIT — American Honda Motor Co. Inc. announced Tuesday that it will voluntarily recall about 66,000 1988 Prelude S and Si automobiles for replacement of power steering hoses.

The hose can develop a slight leak under prolonged vibration at engine temperatures, causing smoke if the fluid contacts the hot exhaust manifold cover and possibly a fire if it contacts the manifold itself, Honda said in a statement.

The company said it had no reports of incidents involving such leaks. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified and improved hose assemblies will be installed free, the company said.
