St. Louis Cardinals injury problems continued with the disclosure that torn rib-cage muscles will sideline left-handed reliever Ken Dayley.
Dr. Stan London, team physician, determined the extent of Dayley’s injury through an examination conducted in St. Louis. Dayley, 29, tore muscles in his right rib cage on Monday while pitching to Eric Davis of the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati.
Dayley was placed on the National League’s 21-day disabled list, joining right-handers Lee Tunnell and Ken Hill of the Cardinals in that category.
Outfielder John Morris, previously on the 21-day disabled list while recuperating from off-season back surgery, was moved to the 60-day emergency medical list. St. Louis’ other sidelined players are left-hander John Tudor, 15-day disabled list, and first baseman Mike Laga, 60-day medical emergency list.
