POLITICS 88 : CAMPAIGN ’88 : Latino Agenda Vowed
Officials of national Latino organizations vowed to make the major political parties and their presidential nominees accountable on a broad Latino agenda in the general election campaign.
Former New Mexico Gov. Toney Anaya, a Democrat, said both parties have paid inadequate attention to Latino concerns in such areas as civil rights, education, employment, housing and health care.
“(It’s) no secret that the Republicans have been wooing the Hispanics, and the Democrats better get their act together at the national level, or we’re going to continue to see an erosion” of support, he said.
Anaya made his comments at a news conference in Washington at a three-day National Hispanic Leadership Conference.
