POLITICS 88 : CAMPAIGN ’88 : Robb Runs for Senate
- Share via
Former Virginia Gov. Charles Robb, a founder of the Democratic group that engineered the massive Super Tuesday political contest, formally announced that he is running for the Senate.
Robb, 48, the son-in-law of the late President Lyndon B. Johnson, kicked off his campaign for the seat of one-term Sen. Paul S. Trible Jr. (R-Va.) at a boisterous ceremony at the state Capitol.
“I’m not running for the Senate because I need a job, or money or another title,” Robb said. “I’m running because I sense we are on the threshold of enormous change--that this new era will test our nation, our people, our principles and our priorities as never before.”
Trible announced in September that he would not run for a second term because he wants to spend more time with his family.
