Architect of the Capitol George White, who helps approve security measures at the Capitol, was snared today by one of the building’s anti-terrorism devices and suffered a bloody nose and car damage.

“The hydraulic barrier malfunctioned,” said White’s chief aide, Elliott Carroll, and the device popped up unexpectedly from the ground, stopping White’s car at the entrance to the Capitol parking lot.

Witnesses said White had a bloody nose when he entered the Capitol. His car, a 1987 Mercury Marquis, suffered damage to the front tires and undercarriage and had to be towed off the metal barrier.

The barriers are part of an extensive security system put in place at the Capitol over the last few years in response to fears of possible terrorist attacks.
