Hijackers of a Kuwaiti jumbo jet changed clothes to make it appear there were more of them than there actually were, a freed hostage said Friday.

Eighteen Britons among 57 people freed from the jet, which was seized on Tuesday en route from Bangkok to Kuwait, returned to Heathrow Airport while the hijacked plane flew to Cyprus still carrying about 50 people.

Suzanne Armstrong, 23, said the hijackers wore Western clothes and different types of masks.

“Sometimes they would put on different clothing . . . . We think that it was to give the impression that there were more of them than there really were,” she said.

“You suddenly realized that the same pair of shoes kept appearing beneath different trousers.”
