Yes, There Will Be a Performance of The Red Shoes . . .

A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” and belonging to Tennessean Roberta Bauman will get a special preview showing here Wednesday before they’re auctioned off by Christie’s in NYC June 21. And the fabled shoes--which we wrote about in recent Calendar articles--will be in good company: Christie’s is showing them off at the Beverly Hills Hotel with Van Gogh’s portrait of Adeline Ravoux and the crown jewels of His Late Royal Highness Sir Sultan Mohamed Shaw Aga Khan III!

“How did all this get started?,” marveled Bauman, who won the slippers in a studio-sponsored contest nearly 50 years ago.

Christie’s rep Hillary Holland figures the Van Gogh should fetch about $20 million at a May 12 auction, and the jewels, a set of six, some $2 million.

For the slippers, added Holland, “We expect between $15,000 and $20,000.”

Supervising Wednesday’s posh reception is Terry Stanfill, international rep for Christie’s--and the wife of former Fox chairman and CEO, attorney Dennis Stanfill.
