Obituaries : Jesse Taylor; Founded Business Colleges
Jesse E. Taylor Jr., who started two business colleges for low-income, disadvantaged people and lived to see nearly 30,000 of them graduate from his Long Beach and Van Nuys schools, has died, it was learned this week.
A spokeswoman for Councilman Robert Farrell said Taylor was 68 when he died of a heart attack March 26 at his vacation home in Las Vegas.
Using government funding and student loans, Taylor started his first private school in Long Beach in the 1950s and added the Van Nuys campus a decade later. Survivors include four sisters.
