Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc. is expanding again after several years of cutbacks. The Anaheim-based owner and operator of Carl’s Jr. Restaurants said it had purchased 13 former Wendy’s restaurants in the San Fernando Valley area from American Restaurants Corp. for $3.4 million. “We have been very successful in the valley,” said Donald Karcher, president of the firm. “But like so many places, good sites are getting pretty scarce.” Last week, Karcher announced the licensing of Carl’s Jr. Restaurants in Japan to Friendly Corp. of Osaka.
