Devers Sets Record in 100-Meter Hurdles

Gail Devers of UCLA set an American and National Collegiate Athletic Assn. record of 13.71 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles Saturday night in the Fresno Relays.

The former U.S. mark was set by Stephanie Hightower in 1982. Lavonna Martin set the former NCAA record for Tennessee in 1987.

In other outstanding marks at Fresno State, USC’s 3,200-meter men’s relay team won in 7:19.36, Tonie Campbell of the Bee Fit track club nipped Robert Reading of USC, 13.50 to 13.70 in the 110-meter high hurdles, and Sheila Hudson of California finished first in the women’s triple jump with a 44-foot 2-inch effort.
