Japan’s trade surplus continued to decline from year-earlier levels in March, although it widened from February’s surplus, the Finance Ministry said. The surplus totaled $7.458 billion, down from $8.050 billion in March, 1987, but up from $5.238 billion the previous month. After seasonal adjustment, the surplus came to $6.552 billion, up from $6.479 billion in the previous month. Japan registered a trade surplus of $3.4 billion with the United States, down from $3.77 billion a year earlier.
