Share

Los Angeles County will help some employees provide child day care for the first time under a plan unveiled Monday.

A 90-space day care center will open in September at County-USC Medical Center, where about 70% of the workers are women, Supervisor Deane Dana announced. The county will donate rent and maintenance to defray the fees charged to employees by the private operator of the day care center.

At least 40 spots will be used for the children of nurses at the gigantic Eastside medical complex.

Dana said the county will also try to open day care centers at other facilities.

Several cities around the county also have committed themselves to setting up day care centers. The Pasadena Board of Directors on Monday approved a general policy statement calling for provision of child care for city workers and a program to encourage large employers to do the same.
