The State : Study Urged for Lawyers
California’s 90,000 practicing lawyers would have to keep studying law--a little bit--to keep their licenses under a proposal approved by the State Bar’s governing board. The Board of Governors voted to sponsor legislation that would impose continuing education on lawyers for the first time--a total of 36 hours every three years, starting in 1990. The plan, used in some other states, was announced in response to complaints that many lawyers fail to keep up on legal developments after passing the Bar exam.
