Local News in Brief : Amnesty Notes on Milk
A dairy company has agreed to print notices on milk cartons in a new campaign to publicize the May 4 amnesty deadline, the Immigration and Naturalization Service said.
INS Regional Commissioner Harold Ezell said in Los Angeles that Ross Swiss Dairies has agreed to distribute up to 50,000 milk cartons per day that will carry a special message in English and Spanish urging immigrants to apply for amnesty before the May 4 deadline.
The milk will be distributed at thousands of independent markets in predominantly Latino communities throughout the West, Ezell said.
If the cartons reach even 5,000 people a day, a significant number of eligible immigrants who have not yet applied for amnesty may take advantage of the immigration reform law, Ezell said.
