The spring showers of the last few days should leave town just in time to provide the type of warm and sunny weekend San Diegans have become accustomed to.

A storm system drifting down the California coast is expected to bring rain through this morning, but the sun should break through by the afternoon, according to National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara. The chance of rain this morning is 40%, dropping to 20% later in the day, he said.

A storm warning is in effect today for the mountains, where snow is expected to fall as low as 5,000 feet and gusty winds may reach up to 25 m.p.h.

But, elsewhere in the county, the weather should be less turbulent, with only about a third of an inch of rain, Shigehara said.

Another Storm on Way

Another storm is on the horizon, forecast to arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday, but sandwiched in between will be a warm, clear weekend. Coastal and inland temperatures will reach 63-68 degrees today, and should warm up to 68-74 by Saturday. On Sunday, inland temperatures may rise to 77 or 78.

Nighttime lows in the 40s and 50s are forecast for inland areas all weekend, possibly dropping into the mid-30s in the county’s coldest spots. Weekend coastal lows are to be from 47 to 55 degrees.

The mountains will stay cool, with highs of 35-45 degrees today, 45-55 Saturday, and inching up to the low 60s by Sunday, according to the forecast. Overnight temperatures in the mountains will go as low as the 20s. Desert temperatures are expected to be from 72 to 77 today, up to 78-84 Saturday and climbing to 90 by Sunday. Desert lows will fall into the 40- to 50-degree range.
