The average American will have to work 126 days this year--until May 5, the latest ever--just to pay federal, state and local taxes, the Tax Foundation said. The best taxpayers have fared in the last decade was in 1984, when most of the big 1981 federal income-tax reduction had taken effect and “Tax Freedom Day” fell on April 28.
